Ksharsutra is used in anorectal diseases like piles, fissure & fistula are very common in Indian population. They are associated with considerable discomfort & morbidity to the patient.Surgical technique, which is widely practiced, has some problems as-1. Extensive surgery in and around the anal canal
2. Prolonged hospitalization
3. Hight rate of recurrence
4. Incontinence

Various modalities such as open surgery in the form of fistulectomy or fistulotomy, seton treatment (chemical or cutting), chemical destruction of the tract by corrosives, and application of fibrin glue or fistula plug are advocated for the management of fistula-in-ano.

The contribution of surgery in this disease is insignificant, especially in India, due to miscalculation in the amount of sphincter to be divided, which may render a patient incontinent and result in frequent recurrence. In fact, operative treatment of anal fistula seems to be a simple matter, but on other occasions, it may present a challenging task.

The pioneer of Ayurvedic surgery, Acharya Sushrut, first mentioned Ksharsutra in the treatment of Nadi Vrana (Sinus), Bhagandar (Fistula-in-ano), and Arsha (Hemorrhoids). Ksharsutra therapy has been found effective and curative in cases of osteomyelitis, sinuses, and such other diseases where extensive debridement has a vital role in curing the patients.

Ksharsutra is also useful in warts, pendular lipoma, and keloid, as it cauterizes the tissue and helps in treatment.

Ingredients –

1. Surgical Linen size no. 20
2. Fresh latex of Snuhi (Euphorbia nerifolia)
3. Kshar of Apamarga ( Achyranthes aspera)
4. Fine powder of Haridra ( Curcuma longa)

MECHANISM OF ACTION OF KSHAR SUTRA THERAPY –

1. Local drug delivery system:
Ksharsutra remains in direct contact with the tract, therefore it acts directly on diseased area.
2. Herbal Chemical Cauterisation
It dissolves the tough fibrous tissue & chemically curettes all the infection out of the tract and
thereby allowing the fistulous tract to heal.
3. Facilitate the drainage of infection
Ksharsutra keeps the whole tract open & facilitates the drainage of all the debris and infection
out of the body in the form of pus and thus prevents the further spread of fistula within the body.
4. Promotes Healing
Due to its antibacterial property it does not allow the bacteria to multiply in the presence &
promotes healthy healing.

Uses:

Ksharsutra is used in the ano rectal diseases like fistula in ano, external & internal piles,
all types of sinuses, osteomyelitis, pendular lipoma, keloid.

Contraindications:

No significant contraindication is mentioned. Regular Ksharsutra has irritation, but Inducare Pharma’s Ksharsutra has no irritation due to its special technique of preparation. Some patients may suffer from redness, itching, or even bleeding at the site of application due to the alkaline action of Apamarg Kshar and Snuhi Kshir.

Expiry:

If stored in good condition shelf life is 5 years. If pack is opened it must be used within 72 hours.
